Gary McInerney has served as chair of the Fifth Congressional District Democratic Party, and has received several appointments from Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, who most recently appointed him to Chairman of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals (Sixth Circuit) Merit Selection Committee.
Former Michigan Governor James Blanchard appointed Mr. McInerney to the board of directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) in 1986 as the first at-large public member. Today, he still serves on the board of directors of BCBSM and as chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee. Recently, Governor Jennifer Granholm appointed Mr. McInerney as a Commissioner of the Kent County Convention & Arena Authority.
Mr. McInerney’s relationships provide access to Michigan’s leaders in local, state and federal government.
In addition to his board and other leadership positions within the state of Michigan, Mr. McInerney has been involved in professional organizations, including the American Board of Trial Advocates of which he served as the Michigan president in 2005.
Mr. McInerney also gives generously of his time to organizations such as the Grand Rapids Rotary Club, the YWCA, Catholic Social Services and many others, often serving as president of the board of directors or executive board.
Mr. McInerney earned both his bachelor’s and his Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Notre Dame. He is married to Linda G. McInerney and he has three sons and a daughter.
